This project ran during the pre-construction phase of Raposeira wind farm in 2013. This project site is placed in the most important migratory bird flyway in Portugal. Ecological monitoring of this wind farm focused on three major components:
- Importance of the wind farm site for soaring bird migration,
- General importance of site for birds
- Bat species use of the territory.
Bird censuses were conducted during an annual cycle, including the breeding and wintering seasons and the autumn migration period. Soaring bird migration counts and movement mapping were conducted. Bat species identification by means of ultra-sound recordings and analysis were conducted.
