STRIX successfully concluded one more bird protection season in Egypt.
Over the last few months, STRIX team, together with local ornithologists, has saved thousands of birds under the program “Radar Assisted Turbine Shutdown on Demand and bird migration monitoring” coordinated by STRIX in the Gabal el-Zayt Wind Farm.
This 200 MW wind farm is located on the western coast of the Gulf of Suez, a critical area for bird migration, where about 2 million migratory birds fly between Africa and the Eurasian zone.
The turbine shutdown response time was totally efficient and the total equivalent shutdown period for the whole Spring Season was residual.
The implementation of this program with shutdown on demand, to mitigate collision mortality in the Gabal el-Zayt Wind Farm is a project of unparalleled importance in the context of the conflict between wind power and birds due to the size and extension of the wind farm and the number of birds that flies in this area.
